Moustiers Faience, Ochre Serving Platter with Birds, 18th century

£445.00
Sold

An exquisite 18th-century French faience serving platter from Moustiers, decorated in a camaieu of orange and ochre, with an imaginative group of grotesques in the centre. The edge is beautifully shaped and finished with lines, while the lip features lively florals and bushes. With characters in medieval attire, a creature playing music, and fantastic birds, this platter is an exquisite example of the grotesque decor favoured by Moustiers inspired by the frescoes of ancient Rome. Here, the characters are depicted with an impressive level of detail and particularly expressive poses. With a large size, this rare platter is perfect to hang on a wall or displayed on a table as a centrepiece.
