French Work Table with Arabesque Marquetry, 19th century

A late 19th-century French work table, standing on cabriole-inspired curved legs joined by a lower tray. The undulating top opens to reveal a compartmented tray, with a sliding drawer nested underneath.

Decorated in dark and lighter wood marquetry, it features fluid scrolls and arabesque-inspired foliage flowing across the top, sides, and legs, creating a striking all-over decorative effect. The monogram L.R. on the front and back suggests this was a bespoke, commissioned piece, likely designed for storing sewing work, adding a layer of individuality.
