Bordeaux Faience, Blue and White Le Bérain Jardiniere, mid 18th century

£250.00

A mid-18th-century French faience jardinière planter from Bordeaux, of elegant oval form, raised on three feet and with striking twisted handles to each side. Decorated in blue and white, the outer body features graceful garlands of flowers, lambrequins and strapwork, characteristic of the light, fluid lines of late 17th-century ornamental design associated with Le Bérain.

The basin is similarly adorned, with symmetrical ornament arranged around floral motifs and acanthus leaves, extending onto the inner body. A rare and decorative jardinière, with graceful proportions and refined Baroque ornament inspired by Le Bérain.
