Moroccan Fez Cosmographic Glazed Dish, Early 20th century

£600.00

An early 20th-century Moroccan glazed ceramic dish from Fez, decorated in a cosmographic style with interlaced circles arranged in a radiating motif around a star. This is surrounded by reserves of starry, sky-like patterns, echoing geometric representations of the cosmos in Islamic art. An earthy palette of manganese and blue is set on an off-white engobe, with highlights of green and yellow. The flat lip is decorated with a frieze of scrolls and dots, while a green band finishes the edge. Impressive in scale, the dish has a tall, deep shape raised on a piédouche foot with two holes for wall-hanging.

A rare dish with a captivating design, in very good condition.
