A 19th-century Moroccan ceramic jobbana from Fez, of traditional form with rounded bowl and tall domed lid surmounted by a knob, originally intended for storing butter
The decoration features polychrome calligraphy in three cartouches, surrounded by flowers and chain-like patterns within circular reserves, set against an off-white engobe ground. The lid displays scrolling ornament with finely detailed floral motifs and stems arranged in geometric reserves.
A vibrant palette of blue, pink, celadon and yellow animates the surface. Signed to the underside "Fès Al-Majzari." A sculptural piece with characteristically rich pattern and colour typical of Fez ceramics.
