An early 19th-century French gilt gesso mirror, c. 1800–1820, with a substantial cushion-moulded frame decorated with elegant fluted bands and corner blocks in the early Empire spirit. The original bevelled plate has attractive light foxing and is bordered by a finely carved leaf-and-dart frieze with rounded upper corners. The gilding retains a warm patina, giving the piece a refined yet understated classical character.
