French Scroll Armchair with Rush Seat, 19th century

This early 19th-century French country fruitwood armchair features a rush seat, a gently curved open back with three wide horizontal rails, and a wide apron below. Armrests are finished with bold scrolls, and the curved sabre legs are joined by stretchers.

With a warm patina, this distinctive provincial armchair combines a restrained design, elegant proportions and striking sculptural scrolls. It is well suited as a desk or occasional chair.
