French Louis XIII Aubusson Tapestry Side Chair, 17th century

This 17th-century French Louis XIII walnut side chair features a finely turned frame with elaborate barley-twist legs and stretchers forming an H-shaped base. Of generous proportions, it has a high upright back and a wide, deep seat—typical of early 17th-century French seating that furnished formal interiors of the Louis XIII period.

The seat and back are upholstered in a late 17th-century tapestry, likely Aubusson, richly woven with birds amid scrolling foliage, ribbons, and vases. An exquisite faded palette of blues, greens, ochres, and beige lends softness and authenticity. A highly decorative side chair, with distinctive scale and quiet elegance.

  • Good condition. Original finish, cleaned and waxed. Minor historical woodworm activity, now inactive. Some wear to the tapestry at the centre, left side of front edge and front right corner of the seat.
