An early 20th-century French oil painting on canvas, depicting an interior with two women painting at easels in an attic studio, surrounded by furniture. The functionality of the burning stove and sloped ceiling contrasts with the refined taste of the chest of drawers, gilded frame and blue and white ceramic pieces. Swags of fabric around the space, together with the large bust and portrait, add a sense of theatricality to the scene, amplified by a vibrant palette of red, blue, green and brown. A corridor creates depth, while oversized objects and distorted perspective give the scene a somewhat surrealist atmosphere.
Presented in a giltwood period frame with a white slip. A captivating interior scene with theatrical details.
