Pair of Brussels Faience Shaped Plates, 18th century

£300.00

A pair of 18th-century Belgian faience plates from Brussels. Each plate is decorated with four foliate-shaped reserves outlined in yellow, depicting figures, birds, insects and houses amid green foliage, set against a soft spongeware ground in manganese.

The edge is delicately shaped and finished with a dark line, the lip softly fluted. The shaped reserves echo the outline of the plate itself, while the drawings within carry a charming pastoral character.

A rare pair, with bold colour and a striking sense of pattern.
