A French 19th-century oil painting on board, depicting a river at dusk, bordered by a path set among trees and grasses and opening onto a lake with hills in the distance. A palette of blue and dark greens with highlights of light yellow animates a cold winter landscape under faded sunlight. Quick, painterly brushwork adds movement to the scene, giving texture to the leafy shapes of the trees and detail to the clouds.
Presented in its original giltwood frame. A captivating landscape study with subtle colour.
